In our reviewer's words

Who this suits

Sample text. Couples or single people in their seventies who can manage on their own, want meals and company taken care of, and want a nurse nearby rather than daily care.

Who this does not suit

Anyone who already needs help with bathing, dressing or the toilet every day. That help is sold by the hour here, and the cost adds up quickly. People with dementia who may wander: the gate is open in the day.

What stood out

Every unit we saw has a level shower, grab rails and a bathroom door that opens outward. Fees are written down and given to any family. Residents run their own monthly meeting, and its minutes are on the notice board.

What we would want fixed

Call bells in every bathroom, not just some. A complaints contact on display. Brochure and reality should match on doctor visits.

Before you pay, ask for…

These depend on documents a home may reasonably decline to show a visitor, so they are not part of the score. You are the buyer: ask for each one in writing before you sign or pay a deposit.

Visit summary

SAMPLE REPORT. Nila Gardens is a fictional home, created to show what a GetCareIndia Visit Report contains. In this sample, we found a well-run community: clean, safe to move around, with a nurse and security on site at night and published fees a family can take home. Three things fell short: call bells are missing in some bathrooms, no complaints contact is displayed, and the brochure promises daily doctor visits that happen twice a week.

Recommendations

Sample text. Before paying the deposit, ask for the full resident agreement and check the refund clause (90% promised in the fee sheet) and what happens if the company is sold.

What these checks are based on

Each check names the standard or rule it comes from. We are a private reviewer, not a regulator: these sources tell you why a check matters, not that the home is legally bound by every one of them.

NABH Accreditation Standards for Care Homes, 1st Edition (2023)
The national accreditation standard for care homes. We cite its chapters and put its intent in our own words; we do not reproduce its text.
Government of Kerala, G.O.(P) No. 10/2016/SJD — registration and minimum standards for old age homes
Kerala's rules for care homes, including different staffing requirements for ordinary and specialized homes, and space and toilet norms.
Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs — Model Guidelines for Development and Regulation of Retirement Homes (2019)
Model guidelines for retirement housing: accessibility, the resident agreement and what a buyer should be told. Binding only where a state adopts them.
Kerala Municipality and Panchayat Building Rules, Rule 5(4), Table A (2025 amendments)
The fire approval threshold depends on the approved occupancy group, total built-up area and building height. Smaller qualifying buildings may still need a fire-safety self-declaration and architect/engineer certificate.
Kerala Fire and Rescue Services — fire clearance guidance and NOC verification
The department explains when fire approval is needed and provides a portal to verify an NOC number.
Food Safety and Standards Authority of India — food business registration and licence display
Food businesses need the applicable FSSAI registration or licence and must display its number at the premises.
GetCareIndia inspection practice
Our own standard where no published rule covers what a family needs to know — chiefly contracts, refunds and whether a home's claims match what it delivers.
