Snehasadanam is a dedicated dementia care centre run by the Alzheimer's and Related Disorders Society Thiruvananthapuram (ARDST), the Thiruvananthapuram chapter of the Alzheimer's and Related Disorders Society of India. The residential and day-care facility was inaugurated on 19 March 2008 and is described as the country's second full-fledged dementia care centre. It provides 24/7 care for people living with Alzheimer's disease and related disorders such as frontotemporal and corticobasal disease.
The centre offers a secure, homely environment with personalised care plans, cognitive stimulation programmes, medication administration, daily-living assistance, nutritious meals, structured recreational activities and transportation for medical appointments. The care team includes an administrator, a nursing assistant, six caregivers and a driver-cum-carer, supported by weekly physician/neurologist visits and physiotherapist visits.
ARDST is a registered charitable society (Travancore-Cochin Literary, Scientific and Charitable Societies Registration Act, 1955; Reg. No. TVM/TC/41/2022) approved under Section 12A of the Income Tax Act, 1961. The facility runs awareness programmes, caregiver training and annual events such as Memory Walks for Alzheimer's awareness.
