Karunya Geriatric Care Centre is a residential old age home in Karingarappully, Kodumbu, Palakkad, run by the Palakkad Alzheimer's Charitable Trust (registered 2001). On 1.25 acres of land near the Government Polytechnic College, the trust built its first block of rooms in 2002-2004, added a new block in 2014, and completed a dining hall, kitchen and store complex in 2016. The home provides accommodation, food and medical care free of charge to destitute elderly people (above 60 years) in a homely, family-like atmosphere.
The facility has built capacity to care for around 30 deserving elderly residents and reportedly housed 22 residents (14 women and 8 men) at the time of reporting. An on-site medical centre supports the home: since July 2002 the trust has run a free allopathic geriatric medical outpatient clinic, and in July 2024 it expanded into palliative care through the Karunya Medical Centre.
The trust is a registered charitable trust with income-tax exemption under section 80G. Care at the home is provided free; admission is intended for destitute and orphaned elderly. Contact details and admission enquiries are handled by the managing trustee.
