About Snehakoodu Abhayamandiram
Snehakoodu Abhayamandiram is a residential care home for abandoned, orphaned and destitute elderly people in Kottayam, Kerala. Founded by social activist Nisha Snehakoodu and registered as the Snehakoodu Charitable Trust under the Kerala Charity Act in 2015, the organisation rescues elderly individuals from streets, bus stands and railway stations and provides them shelter, food, medical care and daily living support completely free of cost.
The home currently cares for around 50 to 86 elderly residents across rented houses, including bedridden residents who require special medical and nutritional attention. Beyond residential care, the trust runs a helpline to rescue abandoned elders, counsels families and has rehabilitated over 180 senior citizens back to their own families. A larger purpose-built facility is being developed at Kollad, Kottayam to expand capacity.
The trust also operates allied welfare projects such as a housing scheme for the needy (Snehaveedu), aid for the differently-abled (Snehasanthwanam) and food distribution drives (Snehanam). It is a secular organisation funded through donations and supports residents at no charge.

I was deeply moved by the smiles and stories shared by the elders, which made the place feel like a real home. Spending time there made me feel better emotionally and reminded me of the importance of love, care, and companionship in every stage of life.

We had some good moments with Snehakoodu, it’s my daughter’s birthday..all are happy over there but when they see kids, some of the ammas couldn’t control their emotion. Had food with them and moreover our kids now know how the world runs..Thank you all of them who are taking care of them..see you all again. Thank You!

Today I had the privilege of meeting the beautiful souls from Snehakoodu Abhayamandiram at Lulu Mall Kochi. Their dance performance was filled with joy, energy, and so much life. It truly touched my heart. Special appreciation to Nisha, who takes such loving care of the elders—her dedication really shows. A wonderful initiative and an inspiring place full of love and dignity. 💛

Abhaya Mandiram is truly a home of compassion. The staff and residents welcome everyone with open hearts, and you can feel the peace and positivity all around. It's inspiring to see how beautifully they care for each person here. Visiting this place reminded me of the value of kindness and service to others.
