Soukya Sadan - Home for the Aged

Soukya Sadan is a charitable geriatric care home established in 1993 at Chethicode, Kanjiramattom, in Ernakulam district. It is run by Welfare Services Ernakulam (popularly known as Sahrudaya), a registered charitable and non-profit organization of the Archdiocese of Ernakulam-Angamaly. The home currently cares for 50 residents and is run independently from the contributions and own funds of the organization.

The home provides personal care and medical services to destitute elderly people, with residential and day-care facilities, a dispensary, counselling support and socio-cultural programmes. Over the years more than 252 aged people have been provided with care, attention and accommodation. World Old Age Day and common festivals are celebrated with participation of the local community.

The facility also operates a training institute that conducts programmes for field workers, community workers, social workers and clergy, and collaborates with professionals on research in geriatric and mental health social work, offering internship facilities for social workers and health professionals.
